Job description
As a Programmer in the Adaptive Information Disclosure (AID) group, you will build tools for knowledge and metadata management within the context of the Virtual Laboratory for e-Science project. You will work using an existing infrastructure of AID Web Services for information extraction, machine learning, and semantic web to implement general solutions to specific problems, especially within the domain of health care and life sciences. You will be expected to follow best practices in software development, W3C standards, and grid, as well as to develop and test ideas for new approaches.
Job requirements
We are seeking a motivated candidate with a university degree, preferably in the exact/natural sciences, or Higher Professional diploma in a relevant discipline. You must have good communication skills and good programming skills, preferably in Java. Relevant work experience in a research environment is recommended and an enthusiastic and result-oriented work approach essential.
Required:
- Bachelor Degree or Higher Professional diploma (HBO) in Computer Science.
- Motivation, communication, and teamwork.
- Experience with Java or other object-oriented programming language
Preferable:
- Familiarity with Semantic Web and Web Services.
- Familiarity with ant, junit, subversion, TRAC, Hudson, tomcat.
About Us
Through our participation in several projects and activities including the Virtual Laboratory for e-Science (VL-e), BioRange, BioAssist, and W3C Semantic Web Health Care and Life Sciences (HCLS) Interest Group, we have developed strong collaborative ties with international researchers in the health care, life sciences, and bioinformatics domains. Through our participation in VL-e, we have access to expertise and use cases from domains such as food informatics, bioinformatics, medical imaging, workflow, and virology. Our research focuses on implementations that address use cases from these domains, built on generic tools and components in a grid environment.
What we offer
You will be employed on the basis of a 38 hour week. Appointment is for one year, possibly to be extended. Your salary will depend on your qualifications and experience, between a minimum of €2109,and a maximum of € 3.106,gross (scale 9) based on a full time position. More experienced programmers (seniors) are also invited to apply for this position. Salary will be according to education and relevant experience (max. scale 10).
